Floor Sanding in the Algarve
Bringing timber back to life.
MNUNES sands and varnishes wooden floors, parquet, staircases and outdoor decking across the Algarve. The process removes the worn surface layer, takes out scratches and marks from daily use, and finishes with varnish to protect the timber.
Timber brought back to life
Sanding gives a worn floor its original look again, making the most of the timber already on the ground.
Reuses the existing timber
You keep the floor you already have, with far less disruption and waste.
Scratches and marks removed
Sanding takes off the surface layer with its scratches, stains and wear.
Protected with varnish
The final coat protects the timber against daily wear and moisture.
Less dust than expected
Our machines have extraction attached, which greatly reduces airborne dust.
Floors and surfaces
We work with different types of timber, indoors and out.
Wooden floorboards
Solid boards in living rooms, bedrooms and hallways.
Parquet and wood blocks
Herringbone, mosaic and traditional block patterns.
Wooden staircases
Treads and landings, including corners and edges.
Outdoor decking
Timber exposed to sun and salt air, around pools and terraces.
How we work
Four stages, from first visit to final coat.
Floor assessment
We check the condition of the timber, how much thickness is left and the existing finish.
Sanding
Progressive sanding, from coarser to finer grit, until the surface is even.
Vacuum and clean
All dust is removed from the surface before any product is applied.
Varnishing
Varnish applied in coats, with drying time between each one.
Varnish finish
We apply varnish, the most suitable finish for floors in heavy use. It forms a protective film over the timber that resists wear and is easy to clean. The number of coats and the sheen level are decided according to the floor and how the room is used.

Questions about floor sanding
The questions we are asked most about this service.
Do you sand floors in villas across the Algarve?
Yes. We sand and varnish floorboards, parquet, staircases and decking in villas and apartments in Vilamoura, Loulé, Almancil, Quarteira, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Albufeira, Faro and nearby areas.
How many times can a floor be sanded?
It depends on the thickness of timber above the tongue. A solid floor will usually take several sandings over its lifetime; an engineered floor has less margin. We assess this before starting.
What finish do you apply?
Varnish. It is the most suitable finish for floors in heavy use, forming a protective film that resists wear and cleans easily.
Is it very dusty?
Our machines have extraction attached, which greatly reduces airborne dust. Even so, we recommend removing textiles and delicate items from the room.
How long does it take?
It depends on the area, the condition of the timber and the number of coats. At the assessment we give you an estimate and the drying time needed before the room can be used again.
